Well, after yesterday’s surprise victory by Croatia over England we had to scrap our original headline with requisite “It’s coming home” reference.

We also stripped out the hot fact showing Harry Kane scoring higher engagement on social media than Antoine Greizmann throughout the tournament. (For the record it was 864,807 to 818,186.)

Instead, we’ll share this one showing that France has the most overall engagements of any of the semifinal clubs as well as the most positive sentiment.

Social Media Interest for World Cup Semi-finalists

Of course, we know social media can’t always predict sport outcomes but it certainly can amplify them as live viewers take to the second-screen to engage with players, clubs, and fellow fans.

We’ll be back next week with a full World Cup impact report to see if France was able to carry its momentum from social media onto the pitch as well as which players and brands stood out from the competition.
